So much history waiting to be discovered in Pafos
Every Friday
Prices per person: £18.00 CYP
The drive to Pafos reveals ever - changing scenery from vineyards and citrus groves to archaeological sites. Our first stop is at Curium. This Greco-Roman site sits on a cliff top high above the Mediterranean and its beautiful open-air theatre offers spectacular views in all directions. We then pass through Episkopi, the largest British base before enjoying time at Petra tou Romiou - Aphrodite's birthplace, where the goddess is said to have been born from the waves.
In Pafos we head straight for the House of Dionysos and its famous mosaics, that were found quite by accident in 1962! We pass the ruined castle of Saranta Kolones 'Forty Columns', and St. Paul's Pillar, where the apostle is said to have been flogged when he and Barnabas brought Christianity to the island.
We also pass the entrance to the catacombs of Ayia Solomoni, marked by a large terebinth tree laden with pieces of material. It is said that if someone is ill and their family ties material belonging to that person to one of the branches of this holy tree, they will be miraculously cured.
After a stroll round the picturesque harbour we begin our return journey.

Kykko monastery a jewel in the mountains
Every Monday
Prices per person: £18.00
The journey to Kykko exchanges the colourful bustle of the coast for the tranquility of the pine-clad mountains and their villages. Our day starts with a visit to the beautiful church of Ayios Nikolaos tis Stegis (St. Nicholas of the Roof), one of the ten painted churches of the Troodos. Built in the 11th century it has a steeply pitched roof and inside its walls are totally covered by frescoes dating from the 11th - 17th century. We proceed to Kykko, the largest monastery in Cyprus. Kykko was founded in the 11th century and is famous throughout the Orthodox world. In the monastery chapel there is one of the three icons of Our Lady said to have been painted by St. Luke. The icon is credited with the power to bring rain. Two kilometers uphill from the monastery is Throni - which means 'seat of Our Lady' and was the setting, chosen by Archbishop Makarios, the first President of Cyprus, for his burial.
Please note, visitors to all monasteries are requested to be properly dressed. During the winter months, Kykko monastery and Throni are visited only if weather conditions permit, otherwise another monastery will be visited.
